Why Using A Licensed Plumber is Important
I’ve been asked recently if having a plumbing license (and being insured) is important. The short answer is “yes”. But I’m not letting you off that easy….it’s important to remember that plumbing problems are often times more than just a clogged drain or a running toilet that won’t shut off.
A licensed plumber will understand the bigger picture of your inner plumbing. Important things like keeping your sewage away from your families’ drinking water, or making sure that any upgrades are within current codes (which, by the way, can be costly for you if you try to sell your home without considering this important element).
The other question I get is “well, don’t you think I could save money by doing it myself? Well sure, you could save some money by doing it yourself or hiring someone who doesn’t have a license, but you’ll run the risk of sub-par working getting done that needs to be revisited later. Shoddy work always costs more in the long run. It’s dangerous too. Leaking pipes can cause serious damage to drywall, floors, ceilings, and basements. There’s even a small change that poor plumbing can cause an explosion! So, as stated earlier, it’s best to find someone licensed and just do it right from the start. It’s also a good idea to hire local. People from the area or more likely to know the homes history, or even who the contractors were who built your neighborhood or sub-division. They’re also more likely to be able to advise on good professionals to deal with electrical or HVAC repairs.
Hiring a good plumber to take care of your plumbing problems is a smart idea. Just make sure they’re licensed (and insured). When checking your local plumber’s credentials, be sure to ask to see their plumbing license. You’ll thank me later (and so will your home)!
